Which system a job calls for depends on the geometry, the loads and how long the structure has to stand. Here is what each one is good at.
The workhorse of commercial work. Prefabricated end frames joined by cross braces, stacked in lifts. Fast to erect and to move, which makes it the right answer for straight runs along a facade or an interior wall.
Common uses Facade work, painting, masonry, interior access
Modular verticals and horizontals that lock at fixed points. It handles irregular geometry that frame scaffold cannot — around equipment, over obstructions, or where bay spacing has to change along the run.
Common uses Industrial access, irregular layouts, tank and vessel work
Purpose-built stair access instead of ladders. Where crews are carrying tools or materials up and down all day, a stair tower pays for itself in time saved and reduces the exposure that comes with ladder access.
Common uses High-traffic access, multi-level work, material movement
Vertical support for formwork and temporary loads during construction. Shoring layouts are engineered to the load they carry, so this is planned against your structural drawings rather than sized by eye.
Common uses Concrete formwork, temporary structural support
Covered walkways that keep a sidewalk open while work happens above it. Municipalities in the Houston area have their own permit requirements for these, and they vary between jurisdictions.
Common uses Street-facing work, pedestrian routes, occupied buildings
Decking, guardrail, toe boards, base plates, mud sills, ties and the rest of the components a structure needs to be complete. Sold as part of a package rather than picked from a shelf.
